CAXTON ACADEMY.
Where will the construction be without the generation of tomorrow? Without apprentices, there will be no future homes. It’s inspiring to see organisations like Caxton Academy helping to shape the builders and craftsmen of the future. I had the privilege of capturing their site on two occasions, and it was a truly rewarding experience.
The first visit took place in the summer of 2024, where I had the opportunity to photograph a diverse range of apprentices as they demonstrated their skills and work on the site. These shoots were a blend of candid moments and staged shots, ensuring the energy felt natural, with only a few minor adjustments to get the perfect shot. These images were used in promotional material for Caxton Academy, showcasing the academy's commitment to developing future talent in the industry.
My second visit was in February 2025, where I was invited back to capture the launch of Caxton Academy. This event featured an incredible mix of guests, sponsors, and staff, and it was fantastic to document such an important milestone. From capturing PR shots of the big names of Birmingham getting their hands dirty to constructing a wall under the guidance of the apprentices, it was a day full of energy and enthusiasm.
In addition to the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, I also documented behind-the-scenes moments, including interviews with apprentices and photos of caxton apprentices being interviewed by a BBC WM journalist visiting to cover the event. As the day wound down and the dust settled, I also captured a series of interviews with the apprentices, providing Caxton Academy with valuable content to support their future marketing and storytelling.
